Estimated Cost: $15,000 per community
On March 28th Myanmar suffered a series of devastating 7+ magnitude earthquakes centered around Mandalay. The earthquakes caused widespread destruction including loss of life and livelihoods for an estimated 17 million people. The impacts compound the already deteriorating political, economic, educational, and safety realities, exacerbating protection issues for children and young people.
Girl Determined is already working with 38 communities in the hardest-hit parts of the country.
Your much-needed support will go to:
urgent community projects designed from on-the-ground assessments, such as useable items distributions, collective work like water well repair, community clean-up, and repurposing of materials;
immediate mental and emotional health services to children and teens through structured group play and one-on-one care;
identification and support of children separated from families;
and addressing the specific concerns of girls and young women who are facing increased risk and who also really want to help their families and communities.
Girl Determined will center the needs of girls and young women within affected communities, and by uplifting their leadership we can act swiftly and effectively. We will buy locally sold goods and services and pay fair wages for those who put in the work. We are an independent non-profit with fifteen years of experience working with communities in this region.
